Postdoc – Biodiversity Modelling: Join Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU), a research university with a rich tradition dating back to 1607. We invite applications for a full-time Postdoc (m/w/d) position with a research focus on biodiversity modelling. This position is part of the DFG-funded project “Predicting the past to understand the future of biological invasions (PredictiveAliens)” and is based at the Chair of Systematics & Biodiversity, Department of Animal Ecology & Systematics, Faculty of Biology and Chemistry.

Eligibility/Qualification:
- Completed Ph.D. in ecology, geography, statistics, mathematics, or related fields
- Strong skills in R programming, including data analysis, modelling, and model validation of biological models
- Experience in modelling spreading dynamics (e.g., on networks) or species distributions, including model validation
- Experience in preparing and analyzing large temporal and spatial datasets
- Experience in writing scientific publications and technical documentations
- High motivation to engage and interact with an international team of researchers
Job Description:
- Develop a computer model to simulate the spread of non-native species through anthropogenic transport networks
- Validate the developed model and test alternative approaches for comparison
- Prepare and analyze data of species distributions and drivers of spread, including trade flows, tourism, and human migration
- Optionally, integrate scenarios to project future dynamics or extend the model to cover impacts of invasive species
- Write reports and scientific articles
- Provide academic services to support the academic qualification process
