Postdoctoral Researcher
Research Area:
Hydrogen Storage Materials and Characterization Techniques
Location:
Brainergy Park Jülich
Eligibility/Qualification:
- Master’s degree with a PhD in physics, chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, or a related discipline.
- Strong background in X-ray methods; experience with synchrotron or neutron methods and/or instrumentation is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of catalysis and energy storage materials, with an interest in operando characterization techniques.
- Experience with programming/scripting (ideally Python), and optionally with control systems (SPS/PLC, EPICS, Tango).
- Fluent in written and spoken English.
- Independent, self-motivated, with teamwork skills and a high motivation for responsibility and new research directions.
- Willingness for international travel and extended research stays at partner facilities.
Job Description:
- Conduct operando investigations of energy materials focusing on chemical hydrogen storage.
- Design, develop, and optimize advanced sample environments and reactors for high-throughput studies.
- Apply and further develop X-ray methods (scattering, spectroscopy, imaging) using in-house infrastructure and synchrotron beamlines.
- Execute operando studies to understand relationships between structure, morphology, performance (reactivity, selectivity, efficiency), and degradation mechanisms under realistic conditions.
- Participate in beam times at international large-scale research facilities including coordination and setup of experiments.
- Collaborate with the machine learning team on data workflows and analysis strategies.
- Contribute to scientific publications, project reports, and international conferences.
- Supervise and mentor PhD and Master’s students.
- Support and write third-party funding proposals.
