Research Area

Eligibility / Qualification
- Educational Background: PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Technical Skills:
- Solid background in numerical methods, mathematical modeling, and network simulation or analysis.
- Strong understanding of power systems, gas networks, or coupled multi-energy systems.
- Proficiency in programming, particularly Python (experience with C/C++ is an advantage).
- Interest in scientific software development, computational research, and large-scale infrastructure modeling.
- Language Requirements:
- Very good command of written and spoken English (at least B2 level according to CEFR), ideally backed by a language certificate.
- Knowledge of German is appreciated but not mandatory.
- Personal Competencies: Strong analytical skills, independent working style, and excellent teamwork and communication abilities.
Job Description & Responsibilities
- Impact Analysis: Analyze the impacts of future energy transition pathways on the planning and operation of European power and gas infrastructures using scenario-based modeling.
- Model Development: Develop and implement models for simulating coupled electricity and gas networks, emphasizing large-scale European energy systems.
- Sector Coupling Assessment: Evaluate interactions between power, gas, and sector-coupled energy systems with a focus on operational flexibility, cross-sector dependencies, and potential bottlenecks.
- Software Enhancement: Enhance and extend internal simulation tools, specifically GasNetSim, to support evolving research questions.
- Dissemination & Mentorship: Publish findings in scientific journals, present at conferences, collaborate internationally, and supervise Bachelor’s and Master’s students.
