Eligibility/Qualification

  • A PhD degree and background in mechanical engineering or a similar field.
  • Research experience in photonics and an affinity with data-driven methods are preferred.
  • Good spoken and written English.
  • The ability to work effectively in a team is mandatory.

Job Description

For the high-accuracy operation of a Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) based module, handling PIC temperature dependency is key. This project focuses on developing a Physics-Informed Machine Learning method that exploits the advantages of physics-based and data-driven models to address thermal challenges.

The research will involve both experimental and modeling work:

  • Modeling: Focuses on identifying the key physical relations between temperature and complex/compounded photonic circuitry, as well as the sources of variation (e.g., uncertainties in material properties, production inaccuracies).
  • Experimental: Conducted in close collaboration with the industrial partner PhotonFirst, aiming to quantify model parameters and provide data for the Physics-Informed Machine Learning model.
