Research Area
Development of novel on-chip solid-state laser systems for scalable quantum and metrology applications.
The role is situated within the Photonics Research Group, an associated lab of imec. The research will be conducted in a multidisciplinary team led by Prof. Kasper Van Gasse, utilizing state-of-the-art facilities, including the clean room for heterogeneous laser integration and the laser lab established under the ERC StG LASIQ project.
Eligibility & Qualifications
- A thesis-based doctorate (PhD) is required.
- Highly motivated individuals interested in developing on-chip laser systems.
Job Description
The research activities are split approximately 50/50 between clean room work/process development and optical simulation/experimentation. Key responsibilities include:
- Fabrication: Developing novel fabrication methods for solid laser waveguides (e-beam lithography, dry-etch optimization, thin-film development).
- Characterization: Testing and characterizing on-chip solid-state lasers.
- Design & Modeling: * Modeling and designing Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) narrow linewidth CW lasers for quantum control (trapped ion, cold atom, color center).
- Modeling and designing PIC femtosecond lasers for frequency metrology.
How to Apply
Applications must be submitted via the Ghent University e-recruitment system. Late applications or those sent via email will not be accepted.
Required Documents (PDF format, max 10MB per field):
- CV: Include your CV and transcript of academic record (merged).
