Research Area

The position centers on fluid-structure interactions, specifically elastohydrodynamics and interfacial fluid mechanics concerning the design of contactless soft robots.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Must hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in mechanics, physics, applied mathematics, or a similar field.
  • Doctoral dissertation must be submitted for evaluation by the closing date.
  • Fluent in English (oral and written).
  • Strong track record in fundamental research related to soft matter physics, robotics, or mechanics/physics.
  • Beneficial experience in fluid mechanics, elastohydrodynamics, and/or complex materials.
  • Strong experimental background in developing and performing experiments related to fluid mechanics, soft matter physics, robotics, or solid mechanics.

Job Description

The successful candidate will focus on:

  • Developing a fundamental understanding of the physical processes involved in vibrating soft sheets near solid surfaces.
  • Conducting detailed measurements of dynamic soft elastic interfaces and fluid flow.
  • Exploring the use of complex materials and actuation principles.
  • Collaborating with both national and international partners while addressing sustainability aspects of the technology.
