Job Description
The primary duty of the postdoctoral fellows will be to conduct research on how environmental factors such as warming, drought, thawing frost, and extreme weather impact soil microbial communities, focusing on growth rates and microbial biogeochemistry (C, N, and P cycling). Responsibilities include:
- Characterizing microbial trait distribution and linking these traits to ecosystem functions.
- Integrating uncovered patterns into ecosystem and global-scale models (e.g., LPJ GUESS / EC-Earth).
- Conducting fieldwork, laboratory experiments, and establishing field experiments.
- Collaborating with researchers and PhD students within the MBLU environment.
- Engaging in teaching (up to 20% of working hours) and participating in higher education training.
- Actively seeking external research funding.
- Contributing to administration and collaboration with industry and society.
Eligibility/Qualification
Applicants must have:
- A PhD in Biology, Microbiology, Environmental Science, Soil Science, or a related discipline, completed within the last three years (exceptions apply under special circumstances).
- Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
- Demonstrated research skills, including experience with laboratory methods relevant to the project.
- Experience in conducting independent research projects from design to publication.
Additional qualifications include:
- Experience in microbial ecology, soil microbiology, biogeochemistry, or soil science.
- Experience with radio-isotope or stable-isotope methods and the analysis of amplicon datasets or other -omics datasets.
- Publications in international, peer-reviewed journals, especially as first or corresponding author.
- Good collaborative skills, drive, and independence.
