Research Area

The postdoctoral research will focus on the fate of organic compounds during silicification and diagenesis under early Earth conditions, utilizing advanced analytical tools and experimental methods.

Location

The position will be based at the Naturalis Biodiversity Center in Leiden, with experiments conducted at the GeoLab and Earth Simulation Laboratory at Utrecht University.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • A PhD in a relevant field such as Earth Sciences or Chemistry.
  • A keen interest in early Earth processes, early life, and diagenetic processes.
  • Preferred qualifications include:
  • General (geo)chemical laboratory skills.
  • Experience with high-pressure and temperature experiments.
  • Familiarity with analytical techniques such as micro-CT, SEM, and TEM.
  • Excellent command of the English language.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.

Description

The successful candidate will perform experiments to study the alteration of prebiotic organic molecules under varying conditions of UV-radiation, silica entombment, and changes in pressure and temperature. The research will enhance understanding of early life’s origins and involve collaboration across various research teams and locations.
