Postdoctoral Fellowships in Process Chemistry: The University of Cape Town’s Drug Discovery and Development Centre (H3D) is offering postdoctoral fellowships in collaboration with local and international partners. The fellowship aims to facilitate the transfer of advanced Synthetron flow reactor technology to South Africa. Four positions are available, and successful applicants will receive training and mentorship in California and work on the synthesis of selected antiretrovirals (ARVs) at UCT. The project presents an opportunity to make an immediate impact on local HIV drug production.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in Synthetic Organic Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry.
  • Strong experience in multistep organic synthesis and synthetic methodologies, demonstrated by publications in reputed international journals.
  • Applicants must comply with the university’s approved policies, procedures, and practices for the postdoctoral sector.

Job Description: The postdoctoral fellows will receive hands-on training and supervision at the Oak Crest Institute of Science in California for three months. Under the guidance of academic and industry mentors, the fellows will evaluate the synthesis of selected antiretrovirals on the Synthetron flow reactor system. Upon validation, the fellows will reproduce and optimize the process at UCT. The project aims to contribute to local HIV antiretroviral production in collaboration with CPT Pharma, the commercial partner.
