Summary

The National Center of Competence in Research (NCCR CLIM+) is launching a new, Switzerland-wide interdisciplinary climate research community to tackle climate extremes like droughts, heatwaves, and floods. We are seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Fellow “Climate and Agriculture” to bridge the gap between natural and social sciences, co-develop exploratory storylines for Switzerland’s future climate resilience, and engage directly with public and private stakeholders.

Research Area

  • Climate Extremes’ Storylines: Interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research at the interface of agricultural science, climate science, and social science, focusing on the impacts of compound climate events on agricultural systems and society.

Location

  • Bern / Zürich, Switzerland (Requires a willingness to commute between Uni Bern, ETH Zurich, Agroscope, and other project locations).

Eligibility & Qualification

  • Education: PhD in agricultural science, environmental science, or a closely related field.
  • Knowledge: Broad understanding of the impacts of droughts, heat, floods, and compound events on agricultural systems and society at large.
  • Experience: Prior experience in research coordination, science integration, and/or stakeholder engagement is highly valued (a plus).
  • Skills:
    • Integrative, creative, and comfortable working in exploratory, interdisciplinary settings.
    • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and team-playing abilities.
    • Excellent written and spoken command of English, German, and/or French.

Job Description

As the Postdoctoral Fellow for the “Climate and Agriculture” storyline, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Storyline Co-development: Collaborating with NCCR CLIM+ researchers to co-develop a comprehensive climate and agriculture vision for Switzerland.
  • Science Integration: Integrating cross-disciplinary research spanning natural climate models, impact assessments, and adaptation/mitigation strategies across various work packages and institutions.
  • Research & Publication: Conducting cutting-edge interdisciplinary research and publishing findings in both scientific and applied journals.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Actively initiating cross-cutting activities and managing interactions with public and private stakeholders, as well as exchanging ideas regularly with the broader storyline postdoc cohort.
