SPostdoctoral Position in Inorganic Nanomaterials: The University of Amsterdam is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Position in Inorganic Nanomaterials to join the research team at the Van ‘t Hoff Institute for Molecular Sciences (HIMS). This multidisciplinary project focuses on developing novel nanoparticles for the lamination and delamination of safety glass within the context of sustainable chemistry.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • PhD degree in Chemistry or Material Science with a focus on inorganic nanomaterials.
  • Experience with synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials supported by a PhD thesis in a related topic.
  • Interest in advanced characterization methods and affinity for innovations towards sustainable solutions.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Good team spirit and preference for working in an interdisciplinary and international setting.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.

Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Synthesizing and characterizing novel nanoparticles using liquid- and gas-phase synthesis methods.
  • Identifying optimal synthesis conditions and selecting appropriate methods for the surface functionalization of nanoparticles for integration into polymer matrices.
  • Characterizing nanoparticles using spectroscopic and surface characterization techniques.
  • Performing structure-property correlations and unraveling the physical and chemical characteristics that determine the functional properties of novel magnetic nanoparticles.
  • Regularly reporting and presenting work progress to research partners and stakeholders within the project.
  • Actively participating in the research activities of the Functional Materials group.
