Eligibility/Qualification:

RequirementsMerit
PhD degree in relevant subjectUse of LCA software (e.g., SimaPro, Open LCA)
Experience in LCA applied to agricultureKnowledge of European livestock sector
Awareness of animal welfare issuesCoding skills (R, Python)
Ability to work independently and collaborateGIS skills (ArcGIS, QGIS)
Excellent English communication skillsExperience with systematic review and expert elicitation
Knowledge of animal welfare assessment
Proficiency in Swedish language
Holding a valid Swedish driving license or equivalent

Job Description:

  • Conduct literature review on animal health, welfare indicators, and environmental methods in LCA.
  • Facilitate structured expert consultation to select appropriate indicators and methods.
  • Develop and apply selected methods through data collection and analysis.
  • Actively contribute to the research environment, engage in teaching activities, and publish research results in high-impact journals.

About Us: The Department of Biosystems and Technology at SLU focuses on sustainable production of food and renewable resources. Our research addresses interactions between soil, plants, animals, environment, climate, and humans in agricultural systems. The successful candidate will join the “Animal Environment and Building Function” group, contributing to research on environmental and animal welfare aspects of livestock production.

Project: This position is part of the STEP UP project, funded by Horizon Europe, aiming to enhance the sustainability of European Livestock Production Systems (ELPS). Collaborating with 16 partners from 10 countries, the project evaluates and upgrades Innovative Livestock Production Systems to improve efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and enhance animal welfare.
