Job Description
The successful candidate will join the ARGIPrism project, which focuses on developing multifunctional metal–organic prisms combining molecular recognition, photodynamic activity, photocatalysis, and drug delivery within structurally defined supramolecular systems. The position centers on the design and synthesis of photoactive metallaprisms based on Au(III) and Pt(II) nodes.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Designing and synthesising organic ligands and coordination compounds based on Au and Pt chemistry.
- Developing and optimizing the self-assembly of discrete metal–organic supramolecular architectures.
- Purifying and structurally characterizing new compounds and supramolecular assemblies using NMR, mass spectrometry, UV–Vis spectroscopy, and chromatography.
- Characterizing photophysical properties, including absorption and emission spectroscopy, excited-state dynamics, and singlet-oxygen generation.
- Investigating structure–property relationships connecting molecular and supramolecular structure with photochemical behavior.
- Functionalizing assemblies to enhance aqueous solubility, stability, and molecular targeting.
- Collaborating with researchers examining host–guest chemistry, DNA recognition, photocatalysis, and biological activity.
- Analyzing scientific data, keeping rigorous records, preparing manuscripts, and assisting with the training of junior researchers.
Eligibility and Qualifications
Required Education:
A PhD in Inorganic Chemistry, Coordination Chemistry, Supramolecular Chemistry, Photochemistry, or a closely related discipline.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Strong research background in the synthesis and characterization of coordination or organometallic compounds.
- Demonstrated experience in supramolecular chemistry and/or self-assembled molecular systems.
- Experience in the chemistry of transition-metal complexes, especially involving Pt, Au, or related metals.
- Proficiency in standard analytical and characterization tools (NMR, mass spectrometry, UV–Vis spectroscopy).
- Expertise in the photophysical characterization of molecular systems (luminescent or photoactive coordination compounds).
- Proven record of scientific productivity through peer-reviewed publications.
- Fluency in written and spoken English, with strong scientific communication abilities.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience in measuring singlet-oxygen generation and evaluating photochemical processes.
- Synthesis or study of photoactive Pt or Au complexes.
- Coordination-driven self-assembly of discrete architectures.
- Background in porphyrin chemistry, photodynamic therapy, or host–guest chemistry.
- Experience studying the interaction of supramolecular systems with nucleic acids.
How to Apply
Interested candidates should apply directly through the official CIC biomaGUNE recruitment portal before the stated deadline. Applicants must submit:
- An updated Curriculum Vitae including a full list of publications.
- A one-page statement outlining research interests and how they align with the activities of the SInBioS team.
- Contact details for two academic referees.
