Postdoctoral Positions in Quantum Simulator: ICFO is offering postdoctoral positions to well-qualified, highly motivated, and dynamic young scientists who wish to enhance their scientific career in a friendly and stimulating environment.

Postdoctoral Positions in Analogue Electron Quantum Simulator

Designation

Postdoctoral Research Scientist

Research Area

Condensed Matter Physics, Quantum Simulators, Electron Transport in Correlated Systems

Location

ICFO – The Institute of Photonic Sciences, Castelldefels (Barcelona), Spain

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Candidates must hold an internationally recognized Ph.D.-equivalent degree (or provide evidence of its imminent completion) preferably in condensed matter physics.
  • Experience in electron transport of correlated systems and fabrication of van der Waals heterostructures is required.

Job Description

The successful candidate will join the international QTWIST program, collaborating with leading researchers including Prof. Jarillo-Herrero (MIT) and Amir Yacoby (Harvard), along with research groups led by Prof. Adrian Bachtold, Prof. Carmen Rubio Verdú, and Prof. Frank Koppens at ICFO.
The project focuses on developing a novel analogue electron quantum simulator using a graphene superlattice to measure macroscopic observables like electrical resistivity and magnetization while probing many-body quantum wavefunctions of correlated electronic states. The research aims to explore the microscopic nature of high-Tc superconductivity and other phenomena, such as heavy fermions in a Kondo lattice, Chern insulators, and orbital ferromagnets.
The contract is offered for a period of 3 years, with salaries aligned with national and international fellowship standards, determined by the Selection Committee.

How to Apply

Interested candidates must submit the following:

  • Presentation Letter with a declaration of interest.
  • Curriculum Vitae, including contact details.
  • The contact e-mails of two potential referees.

Applications will be assessed as they are received, and the call will remain open until suitable candidates are identified.

For formal inquiries regarding the application, please contact jobs@icfo.eu, and for scientific inquiries, reach out to Adrian.Bachtold@icfo.eu, Carmen.Rubio@icfo.eu, or Frank.Koppens@icfo.eu.

Last Date for Apply

The position will remain open until filled.
