Postdoctoral Research Associate – Advanced Processing of Alloys: Oak Ridge National Laboratory is hiring a Postdoctoral Research Associate to contribute to High-Performance Computing for Energy Innovation (HPC4EI) projects. The position involves conducting multiscale simulations, with a focus on large-scale phase field simulations of microstructure evolution during advanced processing of structural alloys. The candidate will work in the Computational Sciences and Engineering Division (CSED) within the Multiscale Materials group. The role includes collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, authoring research papers, and representing the organization in technical presentations.
Designation: Postdoctoral Research Associate
Research Area: Large-Scale Simulations – Advanced Processing of Alloys
Location: Oak Ridge, TN, USA (Zip Code: 37830)
Eligibility/Qualification: Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field within the last 5 years. They should possess experience in the development and application of the phase field method for solving moving boundary problems in metals and alloys.
Job Description:
Postdoctoral Research Associate – Large-Scale Simulations – Advanced Processing of Alloys
The Postdoctoral Research Associate will contribute to ongoing HPC4EI projects by performing multiscale simulations using in-house developed phase field codes. The focus will be on microstructure evolution during metal additive manufacturing and solid-state phase transformations during rapid thermal processing. The candidate will identify opportunities for code development and integration of additional physics in existing phase field codes. Responsibilities also include data visualization, documentation, verification, and validation. Collaboration within a multi-disciplinary research environment and publishing research results in peer-reviewed journals are essential components of the role.
