Postdoctoral Research Associate/Fellow: The University of Exeter invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate/Fellow position in the MRC Centre for Medical Mycology. This exciting role focuses on studying the skin commensal yeast Malassezia and its role in atopic dermatitis. The position offers an opportunity to engage in groundbreaking research at the intersection of medical mycology, dermatology, and allergology.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • For PDRA: A relevant PhD (or nearing completion) in biological sciences or an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field.
  • For PDRF: A relevant PhD/DPhil in biological sciences with experience in fungal biology, glycobiology, immunofluorescence, and/or fungal mutagenesis.
  • Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of research methods and techniques within established research programs.
  • Experience with immunofluorescence, electron microscopy, and flow cytometry is an asset.

Job Description:
The successful applicant will be tasked with characterizing the Malassezia-host interaction interface and identifying immune targets within the fungal wall using various experimental techniques, including fractionation and visualization approaches. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting independent research and managing projects.
  • Collaborating across disciplines in microbiology and immunology.
  • Contributing to research communication, including manuscript writing and conference presentations.
  • For the Fellow level, applicants must also develop research objectives, identify funding sources, and guide less experienced team members.
