Research Associate in Mechanobiology at King's College London

Postdoctoral Research Associate in Nanophotonics: We seek a motivated post-doctoral researcher to join our international and diverse nanophotonics team at King’s College London. We are looking for a curious and self-driven individual, either experimentalist or theorist, with a strong background in vector vortex beams, optical spin-orbit effects, and their applications in metamaterials, plasmonics, nonlinear optics, chirality, optical trapping, and similar.

Designation: Postdoctoral Research Associate

Research Area: Nanophotonics

Location: Strand Campus, King’s College London

Eligibility/Qualification:

Essential Criteria
1.PhD in physics or related areas
2.Experience in experimental or theoretical studies of complex vector (vortex) beams and/or metasurfaces or nonlinear optics
3.Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing
4.Ability to work as part of a team
5.Strong presentation and communication skills
6.Good attention to detail
7.Ability to organize and manage own workload
Desirable Criteria
1.Experience in metamaterials and metasurfaces
2.Experience in nonlinear optics
3.Experience in optical spectroscopy
4.Experience in analytical or numerical modeling of vortex beams

Please note that this is a PhD level role, but candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting the award of their PhDs will be considered. In these circumstances, the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spine point 30 with the title of Research Assistant. Upon confirmation of the award of the PhD, the job title will become Research Associate, and the salary will increase to Grade 6.

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities
Engage in internationally-leading research and determine the future path of this research
Take an active role in the research project on the investigation of complex vector beams interactions with metamaterials and/or chiral objects, particularly in the nonlinear regime
Take a role in building, overseeing, upkeep, and maintenance of research equipment and infrastructure, and in ordering of consumables
Preparation of manuscripts for publication and conference presentations
Co-supervision of PhD and MSc students

The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.

How to Apply: Interested candidates should submit their application, including a cover letter and CV, to Professor Anatoly Zayats at a.zayats@kcl.ac.uk. Please indicate “Application for Postdoctoral Research Associate in Nanophotonics” in the subject line.

Last Date for Apply: 30 November 2023.
