Eligibility & Qualifications
- Academic Credentials:
- Honours degree (or equivalent) and a PhD in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a closely related discipline.
- Candidates near submission/awaiting PhD conferral will be appointed initially at the Research Assistant level (£34,610 p.a.) and moved to Grade 6 (£35,608 p.a.) upon confirmation of PhD award.
- Essential Skills & Experience:
- Hands-on experimental expertise in membrane biophysics or single-molecule biophysics.
- Strong foundation in active matter, polymer physics, or membrane dynamics.
- Proficiency in coding and working with computer simulation packages.
- Proven track record of scientific interest and publication in peer-reviewed research.
- Excellent leadership, documentation, and communication skills to work across multidisciplinary, international teams.
Job Description
- Conduct cutting-edge experimental and theoretical research into the crosstalk between membrane proteins and lipid organisation in health and disease.
- Apply interdisciplinary methods combining cell biology, biochemistry, synthetic biology, advanced imaging, and computer modeling.
- Integrate work with partner labs at UC Berkeley and NCBS Bangalore to apply non-equilibrium and active matter principles to living cell membranes.
- Document findings, publish in high-impact journals, and present research at international scientific conferences.
- Assist in the maintenance and operation of specialized equipment and contribute collaboratively to lab group activities.
