Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, Germany invites application for Postdoctoral Researcher at Max Planck from eligible and interested candidates

About- The researcher will work within the multidisciplinary ERC-funded project “MySocialBeIng”, which aims to study a large sample set of individuals excavated from Bronze Age Greece. Archaeogenetic methods to assess ancestry and biological relatedness will be combined with a range of archaeological methods such as isotopic analyses to elucidate the nature of social bonds and belonging that inform patterns of collective burial and to determine the roles of biological relationships and/or factors such as mobility, status, gender and age in the practice. Beyond this project, the successful applicant will also be responsible for contributing to other ongoing research projects as well as developing and leading research projects in line with the broad aims of the department.

Eligibility/Qualification–

  • The research group is seeking a highly motivated and innovative applicant with a strong interest in multidisciplinary research.
  • The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. degree (or be nearing completion) in biology, bioinformatics, or a related field.
  • The applicant should be proficient in the computational analysis of high-throughput DNA sequencing data with a documented research profile reflected in publications in international journals.

Frequent publication of research articles in peer-reviewed journals and presentations of papers at national and international conferences is required. The applicant is expected to take on the responsibility of supervising students and research assistants.

Proficiency in written and spoken English is essential, enabling the candidate to present and discuss research results in a multidisciplinary and international team. Knowledge of German is not required, although we encourage and support learning German.

The research group also expects a strong commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and teamwork.

Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Archaeogenetics

The research group is looking for a motivated, innovative and independent postdoctoral researcher who enjoys working in a highly international and interdisciplinary research environment.

The research group offers research in an interdisciplinary and international team located at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology (MPI-EVA) in Leipzig, Germany.

The full-time position is available as soon as possible for an initial period of 2 years with the possibility of extension.

Salary and social benefits will be in accordance with the pay scale of public services in Germany (TVöD-Bund, E 13), including the corresponding social benefits.

A generous budget is offered to attend international conferences, visits or invite collaborators.
