Job Description:

The Cardiovascular Genomics Lab (Kaikkonen Lab) at the A.I. Virtanen Institute, University of Eastern Finland, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher. This position is part of the ERC-funded SECRET project, which aims to investigate the genetic and gene regulatory mechanisms underlying ASCVD. The project involves:

  • Exploring the functional impacts of ASCVD-associated cis-regulatory variants identified in GWAS studies.
  • Screening how these variants influence gene regulation in vascular cells such as endothelial cells and smooth muscle cells.
  • Using CRISPR interference (CRISPRi) and CRISPR activation (CRISPRa) to manipulate genes and observe the effects on gene expression patterns and cellular responses.
  • Identifying convergences around gene regulatory networks to uncover mechanisms, functions, and pathways that underlie ASCVD risk.

This position offers a 2-year appointment with the possibility of a 1-2 year extension. The salary, approximately €3,500 – €4,500 per month, is determined by the Finnish university salary system.

Benefits:

  • Flexible multi-location work
  • Extensive occupational health care
  • Staff training opportunities
  • Discounts on campus restaurant meals and other services
  • Affordable sports services and tax-free bike benefit
