The Institute of Theoretical Informatics (ITI) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join the interdisciplinary World Model of Our World (WOW) project. Research Area
- Statistical calibration of machine learning models for weather forecasting and climate science.
- Development of novel statistical calibration techniques based on proper scoring rules.
- Investigation of the statistical calibration of generative machine learning models.
Location
- Primary Workplace: Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies (HITS) in Heidelberg, Germany.
Eligibility & Qualifications
- Education: PhD in machine learning, statistics, computer science, mathematics, physics, or a related field.
- Knowledge: Strong theoretical background in statistical calibration and machine learning.
- Experience: Practical experience building prototypes using frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Publications: Track record of publishing at major conferences such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, or AISTATS (or relevant journals).
- Preferred: Experience with large-scale machine learning models for weather prediction is considered a plus but is not mandatory.
Job Description
As a Postdoctoral Researcher, you will:
- Conduct cutting-edge research on the statistical calibration of machine learning-based predictions.
- Publish research findings in high-impact journals and at major machine learning conferences.
- Collaborate within a highly motivated interdisciplinary team and with international research partners (e.g., Cambridge, MIT, ETH Zurich, Google Deepmind).
- Supervise research interns, as well as bachelor and master students.
