Job Summary

The successful candidate will work within the project, “The sense of smell as a modulator of feeding behavior during developmental transitions in poison frogs.” The role offers the opportunity for further academic qualification while contributing to research on the olfactory system in amphibians and other aquatic vertebrates.

Research Area & Focus

The research group investigates developmental, cellular, and functional aspects of the olfactory system. Key activities include:

  • Utilizing advanced imaging, neurophysiological, and molecular biological methods.
  • Studying neuronal development, synaptogenesis, degeneration, and regeneration.
  • Conducting behavioral studies under natural conditions.

Eligibility & Qualifications

  • Education: Completed Master’s degree or equivalent; Doctoral degree in biology, neurobiology, or a related natural science discipline.
  • Skills (Advantageous):
    • Experience with amphibians or aquatic vertebrates.
    • Proficiency in fluorescence microscopy, functional imaging (confocal/multiphoton), electrophysiology, immunohistochemistry, and molecular biology.
    • Experience with behavioral experiments and data analysis.
  • Communication: Good written and spoken English skills.
  • Soft Skills: Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

Job Description

  • Designing and conducting neurobiological experiments based on project-specific methods.
  • Analyzing experimental data using quantitative, statistical, or image-analysis methods.
  • Preparing research results for reports, scientific presentations, and peer-reviewed publications.
  • Supervising Bachelor’s and Master’s students involved in the project.
