Research Area
Genomic analysis and pangenomics of elms in response to Dutch elm disease.
The research will focus on the genomic analyses of elms affected by Dutch elm disease. Key scientific objectives include:
- Genome assembly and annotation.
- Phylogenomic convergence analyses.
- Processing large-scale sequence data.
Job Description
The successful candidate will contribute to Kew’s mission by conducting complex genomic research. Primary responsibilities include:
- Conducting fieldwork and laboratory sample preparation.
- Performing statistical analyses using high-performance computing clusters.
- Building pangenomes.
- Collaborating within the Science directorate to advance understanding of plant health.
- Publishing findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals and presenting to the scientific community and stakeholders.
Eligibility & Qualifications
Applicants must hold or be near completion of a PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area, such as:
- Evolutionary biology, bioinformatics, genomics, or population genetics.
Required Expertise:
- Proven experience in de novo genome assembly, RNAseq data analysis, and genome annotation.
- Proficiency in phylogenomic analyses and pangenome construction.
- Experience using high-performance computing (HPC) clusters.
- Coding skills in Python, R, and Shell/Unix scripting.
- A track record of publishing research in peer-reviewed journals.
