Postdoctoral Researcher in Economics: The University of Vienna invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position in Economics, Demography, or Quantitative Social Sciences. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary project focused on “Skill loss during parental leave and its role for gender disparities in earnings.” This two-year position, starting in July 2024, offers an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in collaboration with international experts from Austria, Sweden, and France.
Designation: Postdoctoral Researcher
Research Area: Economics, Demography, Quantitative Sociology, Social Statistics, with a focus on quantitative methods.
Location: University of Vienna, Department of Demography, Wittgenstein Centre for Demography and Global Human Capital.
Eligibility/Qualification:
- Completed Ph.D. in Economics, Demography, Quantitative Sociology, Social Statistics, or a related discipline (or in the process of completing it).
- Excellent skills in applied econometrics, particularly in causal inference methods.
- Interest in fields such as labor economics, family policy analysis, gender inequalities, human capital formation, and skill assessment.
- Proven experience working with microdata and proficiency in statistical software (Stata or R).
- Capacity to conduct independent and rigorous research, demonstrated by excellent publications.
- Proficiency in English (knowledge of German is not required).
- Ideally, experience with difference-in-differences methods and familiarity with PIAAC data and/or the Gateway to Global Aging data.
Job Description:
- Conduct high-quality research with societal impact, publishable in international top journals.
- Play a key role in all aspects of the research process, including data construction, analysis, drafting, and publishing academic papers.
- Collaborate with an international team of experts in labor economics, demography, family policies, and cognitive skill assessment.
- Present research at international conferences with generous travel funding.
- Optional involvement in teaching and student supervision.
