Research Area & Context
The VTT Quantum Photonics team specializes in developing cutting-edge photonics solutions for various quantum technologies, including quantum computers (both photonic and superconducting), quantum sensing, and quantum communication. The primary research focus of this role is on Quantum Photonics Integrated Circuits (QPICs). As a researcher at VTT, you will collaborate closely with academic and industrial partners to design, test, and build critical QPIC building blocks that have a direct impact on society and the quantum industry.
Eligibility & Qualification Requirements
VTT is seeking a highly motivated researcher who meets the following criteria:
- Academic Background: Must have recently obtained a Doctoral Degree (PhD) within the last five (5) years in Photonics, Physics, Electronics, or a closely related field.
- Experience: Several years of practical work experience and a proven track record in integrated photonics (experience with QPICs is highly preferred).
- Technical Skills:
- Strong background in quantum optics is a significant asset.
- Knowledge of design, fabrication, and characterization of detectors and fast electro-optic (EO) modulators is highly desirable.
- Language Skills: Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English.

Job Description & Responsibilities
As a Postdoctoral Researcher, you will play an essential role in planning, developing, and executing research and commercial projects. Your core responsibilities will include:
- Managing and advancing a research portfolio focused on integrated photonics for quantum technologies.
- Performing optical and electro-optical characterization of active Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs).
- Developing wafer-scale fabrication processes and process integration for QPICs.
- Actively seeking new research opportunities and building collaborative relationships with both academic institutions and industrial partners.
- Contributing to project proposals to secure research funding.
- Publishing research findings in high-impact journals and presenting at international conferences.
- Supervising and tutoring junior researchers and student team members.
