Job Description

As a Postdoctoral Researcher within the ASCEND project, you will work at the Competence Centre Thin-Film- and Nanotechnology for Photovoltaics (PVcomB) to help establish a self-driving lab for materials discovery. Your primary responsibilities include:

  • System Development: Planning, setting up, and commissioning an inert sample transfer system linking high-throughput PECVD/PVD synthesis with MetalJet source XRD/XRF analysis.
  • Automation & AI: Developing automated data processing workflows and executing AI-assisted combinatorial material screening (XRD mapping on 2D systems and phase identification).
  • Scientific Output: Analyzing data, drafting scientific manuscripts, and presenting findings at national and international conferences.
  • Collaboration: Working closely with project partners from both academia and industry.

Eligibility & Qualifications

  • Education: Completed university degree and doctorate in physics, materials science, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in laboratory/measurement technology, hardware/software automation, CAD software, and Python programming.
  • Characterization Experience: Strong background in physical characterization techniques, specifically XRD and XRF (experience with SEM/TEM, UV-Vis, or Raman is a plus).
  • Languages: English skills at the C1 level.
  • Desired: Previous experience with the requirements of a “self-driving lab” is highly valued.
