Eligibility / Qualification

Minimum Qualification

• PhD degree in Biology, preferably in neuroscience, neuroimmunology, or immunology.

Preferred Experience

• Ability to work independently and as part of a research team.
• Ability to manage moderately sized projects with input from the Principal Investigator.
• Experience with immunofluorescence and microscopy.
• Experience with flow cytometry.
• Experience conducting small-animal behavioral assays.
• Rodent surgical experience, preferably involving traumatic brain injury models or other cranial procedures.

Job Description

The postdoctoral scholar will support ongoing neuroimmunology research in the Mallah Laboratory. Major responsibilities include:

1. Animal Procedures and Behavioral Studies – 35%

• Perform animal procedures and behavioral experiments.
• Conduct surgical procedures, including traumatic brain injury models.
• Perform behavioral assays and analyze experimental data.
• Maintain animal colonies.
• Harvest tissues for downstream analyses.

2. Wet-Lab Research and Laboratory Operations – 35%

• Conduct wet-lab experiments for assigned research projects.
• Perform immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry staining.
• Conduct microscopy and flow cytometry.
• Perform cryosectioning of tissue.
• Analyze experimental results using dedicated software.
• Prepare laboratory reagents and manage reagent inventories and aliquots.
• Assist with laboratory equipment maintenance.

3. Scientific Communication and Reporting – 20%

• Prepare manuscripts, abstracts, and progress reports.
• Produce publication-quality figures.
• Draft sections of research papers, including methods, introduction, results, and discussion.
• Develop posters and presentation materials for scientific meetings.
• Maintain knowledge of relevant scientific literature.
• Apply for internal and external funding opportunities and assist the PI with grant proposals.

4. Laboratory Support and Organization – 10%

• Support related laboratory projects.
• Train new and visiting laboratory members in standard protocols.
• Participate in laboratory and project meetings.
• Maintain accurate laboratory records, including notebooks, budgets, and purchasing documentation.
• Contribute to a clean, collaborative, compliant, and efficient research environment.
