Department of Medical Oncology Haematology, AIIMS Rishikesh invites applications from outstanding and enthusiastic researchers for post-doctoral positions under the mentorship of Dr. Uttam Kumar Nath (Professor & Head, Department of Medical
Oncology Haematology, AIIMS, Rishikesh) along with Dr. Saugata Hazra (Associate Professor in BSBE, IIT Roorkee), in a Collaborative ICMR project, titled “Development and Clinical Validation of an Artificial Intelligence-empowered antibiotic susceptibility device towards optimizing antimicrobial therapy regimen in leukaemia & bone marrow transplant patients” (ICMR Proposal Id: IIRPIG-2023-0000773).
Research/Job Area-Â Microbiology, Biochemistry and Computational Biology and NGS Techniques
Location-Â AIIMS Rishikesh, India
Eligibility/Qualification–
For Position 01: The prospective candidate is expected to have a strong background in Microbiology, Biochemistry and Computational Biology and NGS Techniques (Whole Genome, Metagenome, Metagenome Shotgun etc.), Basic Molecular Biology Techniques, and Investigation of microbial activities. The candidate should be passionate about working on cutting-edge research that will lead to high-impact products and services. This position needs the candidate to be closely connected with the two collaborative institutes (AIIMS Rishikesh and IIT Roorkee) in the laboratories of Dr. Uttam Kumar Nath and Dr. Saugata Hazra. Other research activities may include discussions with overseas universities and research centers.
Minimum Qualification and Experience:
The prospective candidate should have the following specializations, i.e. at least five first-author SCI publications in the relevant fields, a solid academic background and a PhD degree in any of the two areas of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology but very importantly, need basic experience in another area also.
Experience in genome sequencing and handling microbiology samples would be extremely essential. Experience utilizing genome sequencing data towards structure function analysis and experience working in a collaborative group would be considered additional merit considering the current project’s focus. Candidates who have recently submitted their doctoral thesis are also eligible to apply, subject to the condition that they furnish proof of award of Ph.D. at the time of interview.
For Position 02: The prospective candidate is expected to have a strong background in Microbiology, Basic Molecular Biology Techniques, and Investigation of microbial activities especially for clinical samples. The candidate should be passionate about working on cutting-edge research that will lead to high-impact products and services. This position needs the candidate to be closely connected with the two collaborative institutes (AIIMS Rishikesh and IIT Roorkee) in the laboratories of Dr. Uttam Kumar Nath and Dr. Saugata Hazra. Other research activities may include discussions with overseas universities and research centres.

Experience in Clinical/Environmental sampling (Hospitals/clinics/pollution sources);
AMR bacteria screening, AST, MIC, and related studies; Biological Assays, Data
Analysis, Data maintaining and paper drafting; Antibiotic residue analysis in samples;
Analysis and interpretation of data; AMR modelling and Surveillance; sample preparation for FE-SEM/TEM/Fluorescent microscopy are essential. Experience in Confocal Microscopy and experience working in a collaborative interdisciplinary group with clinical and non-clinical setups would be additional merit considering the current project’s focus. Candidates who have recently submitted their doctoral thesis are also eligible to apply, subject to the condition that they furnish proof of award of Ph.D. at the time of interview.

Duration and Fellowship amount:
The fellowship will be of two years, further extendable for two more years, based on performance. The candidate is expected to join the Department as soon as the offer letter has been released. The fellow will receive a consolidated fellowship as follows:
The Amount of Fellowship is Rs. 56,000/- per month + HRA.
