Eligibility/Qualification–
Essential Qualification
- Postgraduate degree in Microbiology / Biotechnology / Life Sciences
- Minimum two years of expertise in antibacterial drug discovery using chemical genetics
Desirable Qualification
- Protein purification and biochemical assays
- Ph.D. in Microbiology/Biotechnology
- Prior knowledge of bacterial cell wall catalyzing enzymes
- Expertise in:
- Molecular biology techniques
- Analytical chemistry
- Docking analysis
Job/Position Description-
Applications are invited from Indian nationals for a project-based position under the supervision of Prof. Ranjana Pathania, Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. The position is funded by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and focuses on antibacterial drug discovery targeting Acinetobacter baumannii.
The selected candidate will work on the research project titled “Synthetic lethal interaction screening for discovery of novel Acinetobacter baumannii L,D-transpeptidase (LdtJ) inhibitors (SLIDNALI)”. The project aims to discover novel inhibitors targeting bacterial cell wall proteins using chemical genetics and molecular biology approaches.

Project Research Scientist (Non-Medical)
The selected candidate will be responsible for:
- Designing and conducting inhibitor screening experiments against bacterial cell wall proteins
- Performing genetic manipulations and molecular cloning
- Protein purification and biochemical assays
- Conducting animal handling and experiments using animal models
- Data analysis and reporting under the guidance of the Principal Investigator
