IIT Ropar, India invites applications for Project Scientist Position at IIT Ropar in the -funded project from eligible and interested candidates
Applications are invited for the position of Project Scientist I for a temporary, contractual period in an interdisciplinary research project at IIT Ropar. The project focuses on developing BIG Data Analytics Based Virtual Soft Sensors for online estimation and health monitoring of gas-turbine engine parameters using advanced Bayesian estimation and AI/ML techniques. The project offers a fellowship of Rs. 56,000 plus HRA, with an initial tenure of one year, extendable based on performance. This role does not guarantee any permanent IIT Ropar appointment and comes with no claim to future posts or fellowships at the institute.

Eligibility/Qualification–
| Essential Qualification | Ph.D in Engineering/Mathematics or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering / Mechanical Engineering / Instrumentation and Control Engineering/ Electrical Engg.. Important: Expertise in the research areas of data driven predictive model development and predictive maintenance using Deep learning algorithms, Bayesian State Estimation, Sensor Fusion techniques are highly encouraged. |
| Age Limit | 35 Yrs., relaxation as per Government norms |
Desirable qualifications:
- Background on data driven modelling using AI/ML techniques, applications of AI/ML to fault detection and diagnosis is an edge.
- Knowledge of filtering techniques such as: Kalman Filters, Extended Kalman filters and Sampling based filters.
- Good programming skills in MATLAB / Python
- Good communication and written skills.

| Job Description | This project focusses on developing BIG Data Analytics based Virtual Soft Sensors for Online Estimation and Health-Monitoring of Gas-Turbine Engine Parameters. Here, state of art Bayesian estimation techniques, and hybrid estimation schemes (i.e., Bayesian Estimation schemes + AI/ML modeling schemes) will be explored in developing multi-rate and multi-sensor fusion schemes for online estimation and health monitoring of critical parameters of gas turbine engines. Candidates will get a unique opportunity to interact and get mentorship from GTRE Scientists collaborators. |

The engagement will be initially for a period of 1 year which may be extended or curtailed depending on the duration of the tenure of the sponsored project/satisfactory performance or conduct of the appointee; as the case may be. The engagement will be purely on a temporary basis and shall not be an IIT Ropar appointment, temporary or otherwise and shall not entitle the appointee to any right/claim whatsoever, implicit or explicit, for his/her consideration against any IIT Ropar post/fellowship.
Selected candidates will be called for an online interview in Dept. of Chemical Engg.
The prescribed educational qualifications are a bare minimum and mere possession of the same will not entitle candidates to be called for interview. Where the number of applications received in response to this notice of engagement is large, it may not be convenient or possible to interview all the candidates. Based on the recommendations of the Screening Committee, the Project Leader may restrict the number of candidates to be called for interview to reasonable limits after taking into consideration qualifications and experience over and above the minimum qualifications prescribed in the Notice. Therefore, it will be in the interest of the candidates to mention all qualifications and experience in the relevant field as on the date of advertisement.
All shortlisted candidates will be required to appear before the Selection Committee for an online interview. The URL link for online interviews will be provided to shortlisted candidates. No interview call letter will be issued separately.
