Job Description & Fellowship Overview
The Provost’s Postdoctoral Fellowship in Engineering supports early-stage researchers committed to Notre Dame’s mission to be a powerful force for good. The primary selection criteria are scientific excellence and a clearly articulated plan to tackle problems at the cutting edge of engineering and applied sciences, especially those aligned with the University’s 2033 Strategic Framework and Initiatives.
Fellows will benefit from:
- Competitive Compensation: A stipend of $75,000 per year for up to two years.
- Discretionary Research Fund: A $15,000 allowance to support independent research endeavors, technical training, conference travel, and professional development.

- Professional Development: Individualized career guidance provided by the College of Engineering’s Director of Postdoctoral Studies, alongside participation in cohort-based leadership and research training programs.
- State-of-the-Art Facilities: Access to premier facilities such as the Nanofabrication Facility and more than 30 university-wide interdisciplinary institutes and centers.
Eligibility Criteria
Interested candidates must satisfy the following criteria:
- Degree Requirement: Must have completed or expect to complete all requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) between June 2025 and September 2027.
- Leave Exceptions: Earlier completion dates may be considered for applicants who have taken family, medical (FMLA), or parental leave within the past two years.
- Nationality: Open to scholars of all nationalities and citizenships worldwide.
- Restrictions: Current postdoctoral scholars already employed at the University of Notre Dame are not eligible to apply.
