Research Assistant Position: Osnabrück University is inviting applications for a Research Assistant position at the Department of Ecology, School of Biology/Chemistry. The successful candidate will contribute to a DFG-funded research project focusing on the emergence and self-organization of bacterial metabolism in cross-feeding bacteria consortia.

Eligibility/Qualification

Required Qualifications:

  • Completed university degree (M.Sc. or equivalent) in biology or a related field
  • Solid knowledge of molecular biological methods
  • Practical experience with microbiological techniques
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Excellent university degree
  • Strong motivation and curiosity
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team
  • Structured and independent working style
  • Experience in high-resolution fluorescence microscopy and microfluidics
  • Practical experience in mass spectrometry
  • Good working knowledge of statistical analysis
  • Sound knowledge of ecological and evolutionary concepts
  • Basic knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Python or R)

Job Description

  • Participate in the DFG-funded project.
  • Generate and characterize bacterial mutants.
  • Perform co-culture experiments with various bacterial strains.
  • Analyze bacterial cluster formation using laser diffractometry and fluorescence microscopy.
  • Investigate bacterial behaviors at the single-cell level using microfluidics and flow cytometry.
  • Quantify amino acid production and metabolic fluxes via mass spectrometry.
  • Collaborate with national and international research partners.
