Research Associate at Heriot-Watt University- The Research Centre for Carbon Solutions (RCCS) is seeking a highly motivated and creative post-doctoral researcher to work with an international and multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers. The selected candidate will contribute to a research project on “Unlocking the scalable potential of sorbent-based DAC technologies”.

Location: Research Centre for Carbon Solutions (RCCS), Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, UK

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • The ideal candidate must have a PhD (or about to obtain) in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or a related discipline (e.g. materials science or other engineering).
  • Background and demonstrable expertise in performance testing of materials for carbon capture applications is essential.
  • The candidate should have experience in solid state characterization techniques relevant to adsorbent materials, e.g. powder X-ray diffraction, isotherm analysis, thermogravimetric analysis.
  • Experience in synthesis of adsorbent materials, and integrating laboratory and process modelling approaches is desirable.

Job Description:

Research Associate in the Research Centre for Carbon Solutions (RCCS)

The successful candidate will contribute to research activities in the “Unlocking the scalable potential of sorbent-based DAC technologies” project. The successful candidate will synthesize and characterize candidate sorbent materials, develop an experimental protocol for benchmarking of DAC materials, validate models’ predictions, and identify optimum materials-process combinations for further scale-up and commercialization of the technology. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the team to achieve project goals. This includes coordination of interdisciplinary teams, supervision of students/junior researchers, and maintenance/support of the facilities/equipment.
