Research Fellow (Defect Chemistry/Solid-State Ionics): The Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N) is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Research Fellow specializing in defect chemistry and solid-state ionics. This role focuses on developing direct ammonia proton-conducting solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). The successful candidate will work at the forefront of fuel cell research, engaging in the fabrication, synthesis, and characterization of materials for ammonia fuel applications, while collaborating with internal and external partners.

Location: NTU Main Campus, Singapore

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., solid oxide fuel cells, defect chemistry, high-temperature catalysis).
  • At least 3 years of experience with proton-conducting SOFCs.
  • Proficiency in the fabrication and characterization of SOFCs, including TEM analysis.
  • Strong expertise in defect chemistry and solid-state ionics.
  • Experience with materials characterization tools such as SEM, TEM, XRD, XPS, and FIB.
  • Familiarity with hydrogen carrier fuels, particularly ammonia, and related decomposition processes.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management and laboratory operations.
  • Proven ability to supervise and mentor researchers and students.

Job Description:

  • Fabricate proton-conducting SOFCs.
  • Synthesize and characterize materials for SOFC applications.
  • Collaborate with external partners on ammonia-fueled SOFC research and development.
  • Assist the Principal Investigator (PI) in managing research projects.
  • Oversee daily laboratory operations, including experiments and safety protocols.
  • Mentor and supervise researchers and students, ensuring adherence to best practices.
  • Coordinate with vendors and technicians to meet the laboratory’s technical needs.
  • Prepare interim reports, presentations, and documentation for ongoing research projects.
