Research Area

Eligibility/Qualification

  • A PhD or equivalent in a relevant field such as Computational Mechanics, Materials Science, or a related discipline.

  • Familiarity with fluid-structure interaction problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research environment.

Job Description

The successful candidate will engage in the EPSRC-funded project, MAPFSI, focusing on developing experimentally validated computational algorithms for fluid-structure interaction problems, including the impact of electromagnetism. Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing computational coupled algorithms for thin and slender structures.
  • Implementing established algorithms from literature on computational contact mechanics.
  • Collaborating closely with experimental researchers on the properties of magneto-active polymers.
  • Conducting independent research and developing new computational methodologies and software for Solids Mechanics.

The Research Officer will benefit from opportunities to engage with academic partners from institutions such as MIT and Texas A&M University, as well as industrial partners in the UK.
