The Stanford Science Fellowships support exceptional early-career scientists to pursue fundamental experimental and/or theoretical research in any natural science discipline. Fellows will hold a primary appointment in an academic unit across participating schools at Stanford University.

Eligibility/Qualification
- Applicants must have been awarded their PhD within the last three years at the start of the fellowship and have no more than two years of prior postdoctoral experience at another institution.
- Proposals primarily addressing social sciences are not eligible.
- Applicants must not be affiliated with Stanford in a paid or unpaid position throughout the duration of the selection process through the end of February (current Stanford graduate students and postdocs are ineligible, as are prospective postdocs starting prior to March 1, 2027).
- Open to all nationalities, though international scholars must qualify for a J-1 visa (H-1B visa holders are ineligible).
Job Description
Stanford Science Fellows conduct fundamental experimental and/or theoretical research for a three-year term. Fellows receive an annual stipend of $98,000, benefits, up to $10,000 per year in supplemental funds for research and professional development, up to $2,500 in relocation expenses, and supplemental child care assistance grants and visa expense assistance where eligible. Fellows are expected to participate in the program’s community-building and professional development activities, complete annual progress reports, and collaborate with faculty research groups.
