Two Fully Funded PhD/Postdoc Positions: The Jiawei Yang lab in the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute is offering two fully funded PhD/Postdoc positions, commencing in Fall 2024 or on a mutually agreed date. We are establishing an interdisciplinary research team dedicated to the Multiscale Engineering of Soft Material Systems, focusing on developing high-performance, bio-integrated, and bio-interfacing soft material systems for health. Collaborations extend to esteemed institutions such as MIT and MGH in the Boston area.

Eligibility/Qualification: Motivated students/postdocs with degrees in mechanical engineering, materials science, polymer science, or biomedical engineering are encouraged to apply. Graduate candidates should hold bachelor’s or master’s degrees, and postdoc candidates should hold PhD degrees. Postdoc candidates should demonstrate a strong track record of research experience and publications.

- Mechanics of Soft Materials:
- Fundamental understanding of nonlinear mechanics, adhesion, fracture, and fatigue.
- Development of soft materials with exceptional properties.
- Soft Materials for Health:
- Development of soft material systems for interfacing with biological systems.
- Topics include tissue mimicry and integration, implantation, and drug delivery.
