Two PhD Positions in Weather and Climate: The Climatology group of the Institute of Geography and Oeschger Centre at the University of Bern, led by Prof. Stefan Brönnimann, is offering two open PhD positions in weather and climate reconstruction. These positions are part of a Swiss National Science Foundation project, building on the PALAEO-RA project, with the aim of reconstructing and analyzing monthly climate and daily weather in central Europe back to the late 17th century using early instrumental and documentary data.

Job Description:
Two PhD Positions in Weather and Climate Reconstruction (3 years, renewable to max. 4 years)
- PhD Student 1: Improve and apply data assimilation approaches to reconstruct large-scale climate and European weather.
- PhD Student 2: Compile historical data series, test and use machine learning approaches, and calculate climate extreme indices in daily data.
Start Date: April 1, 2024
Duration: 3 years, renewable to a maximum of 4 years
