Designation/Position- University Assistant (post doc) Position (6 Year)
Wanninger Lab, University of Vienna, Austria invites application for University Assistant (post doc) Position from eligible and interested candidates
About- The Wanninger Lab is hiring a Postdoc in Invertebrate EvoDevo or Invertebrate Morphology! We are a dynamic, international group situated in the recently built University of Vienna Biology Building (UBB) with brand new labs to perform top-notch molecular and morphological research. Additional infrastructure includes animal care facilities to maintain and rear aquatic and terrestrial animals as well as access to sequencing facilities, high-end computer clusters, and an imaging and electron microscopy core facility. While mollusks have long played a central role in the research of our group, our approaches are highly comparative and cover a wide range of animals. The position is thus open to candidates with either malacological or non-malacological research interests. Candidates with experience in little-investigated, preferably aquatic, invertebrate taxa are particularly encouraged to apply. We seek an enthusiastic lab member that is willing to work rather independently. The position is flexible to account for specific interests of the successful candidate. Projects will be developed together with the PI. The position is fully funded for 6 years.
Research/Job Area- Biology or a related discipline
Location- Wanninger Lab, University of Vienna, Austria
Eligibility/Qualification–
- The successful applicant must hold a PhD in Biology or a related discipline.
- Postdocotoral research experience is an advantage but not mandatory.
- Applicants should have experience with designing research projects and with composing scientific manuscripts.
- The scientific profile and expertise is rather flexible and may (either) include molecular approaches to EvoDevo questions (e.g., gene expression analysis by in situ hybridization including primer design and probe synthesis, single cell transcriptomics) and/or state-of-the-art morphological methods such as high-end microscopy and imaging (e.g., confocal microscopy, electron microscopy, 3D reconstruction).
Excellent English communication skills (oral and written) are mandatory.
