Scholarship & Fellowship Description

The KU-EEB graduate program is research-intensive and operates under a mentor-based system where faculty advisors supervise student research and progress. Doctoral applicants may also be considered for competitive institutional awards, including the prestigious Madison & Lila Self Graduate Fellowship, which supports select incoming STEM students. Furthermore, all doctoral application fee waiver requests submitted by U.S. citizens who completed or will complete their Bachelor’s degrees within the last 8 years are supported and approved through this fellowship program. Other applicants may receive fee waivers on a case-by-case basis.

Eligibility / Qualification

  • Applicants must hold or be on track to receive a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a relevant discipline.
  • Faculty Sponsorship: Because KU-EEB operates on a mentor-based system, applicants are expected to establish contact with prospective faculty mentors prior to applying and secure sponsorship into a lab group.
  • Submission of a complete application adhering to departmental and university admission requirements.
  • For doctoral application fee waivers: U.S. citizenship with a bachelor’s degree received or anticipated within the last 8 years (or approved case-by-case evaluation).
