VCAI Postdoctoral Fellowship: The University of Maryland’s Center for Values-Centered Artificial Intelligence (VCAI) is inviting applications for postdoctoral fellowship positions to work on ethical AI that promotes human and societal well-being. These one or two-year fellowships, with flexible start dates in 2023, are available in any research area that connects human and societal values to AI technology development.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A Ph.D. in a relevant field, with degree requirements completed or close to completion by the start date
  • Demonstrated research ability through two conference or journal publications, book chapters, or equivalent writing samples
  • Research interests that overlap with at least two faculty members in VCAI
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work in a highly interdisciplinary environment

Job Description: As a VCAI Postdoctoral Fellow, the selected candidate will:

  • Pursue their own research agenda
  • Interact with the center’s diverse array of researchers
  • Contribute to ongoing research projects
  • Work closely with faculty and graduate students in VCAI
  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students
  • Co-mentor students with their faculty mentors
  • Have teaching opportunities
  • Organize the VCAI seminar series and interact with campus leadership
  • Have opportunities to gain experience in grant writing
