Scholarship Description & Benefits
The Western Sydney University Research Scholarship supports candidates dedicated to impactful, high-level research. The funding package includes:
- Annual Stipend: $38,707 AUD per year (tax-free for full-time candidates) for up to three (3) years.
- Tuition Fees: Covered under the Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) fee offset.
Exclusions: The scholarship does not cover visa application charges, travel/relocation costs, or Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC).
Eligibility / Qualifications
Applicants must satisfy the general admission criteria for a doctoral degree program at Western Sydney University and fall under one of the following eligibility profiles:
- A new applicant applying to begin a doctoral program; OR
- An active candidate who commenced a doctoral program in 2026; OR
- An applicant holding an unconditional or conditional offer to begin a doctoral program in Q1 2027.
Specific Criteria for International Applicants
International applicants are eligible if they meet either of the following requirements:
- Have completed a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) or Master of Research (MRes) degree at Western Sydney University in 2025 or 2026; OR
- Are currently enrolled and under examination in an MPhil or MRes program at Western Sydney University.
General Conditions
- Must be available to enroll in a full-time doctoral program starting in Quarter 1 2027 (commencement date: 4 January 2027).
- Must reside onshore in Australia by the scholarship start date.
- Must submit the mandatory Standardised Applicant CV template; applications submitted without this CV will not be ranked.
