Job Description:
PhD. Student Position in Nanoscale Quantum Photonics
As a successful candidate, you will be part of a dynamic team, contributing to the development of hybrid platforms for complex metrology functions, quantum sensing, and quantum spectroscopy. Your responsibilities will include setting up optical measurement setups inside a dilution refrigerator, designing high-frequency electronics and custom-tailored mechanical components, and exploring quantum measurement and generation schemes.
Key duties and responsibilities:
- Develop miniaturized cryogenic optical setups and automate measurement procedures.
- Invent novel hybrid optical-microwave/terahertz electronics nanostructures and integrated photonic circuits through simulation software.
- Characterize samples in the lab.
- Write scientific publications, file patents, and present work at national and international conferences.
- Maintain collaborations and deliver periodic progress reports within the project.
How to Apply: To apply for this position, please send your CV and transcript of records (Bachelor and Master) to Prof. Cristina Benea-Chelmus at cristina.benea@epfl.ch. Along with your application, include a short statement (max. one page) outlining your interest in joining the group, specific interests, how your skills contribute to the lab’s mission, and your vision for academic/scholarly growth within the Hybrid Photonics Laboratory.
Last Date for Apply: The position will remain open until filled, and we will start reviewing applications from 31 February 2024. Early applications are encouraged.
We offer a unique opportunity to contribute to the evolving field of quantum photonics within a dynamic team. The position comes with a competitive salary, coverage of conference costs, and access to excellent infrastructure through the cleanroom at EPFL, the Lausanne Center for Ultrafast Science, and the Quantum Science Center at EPFL.
