Post-Doctoral Researcher in Economics: The Université Catholique de Louvain invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Researcher in Economics specializing in Agricultural and Development Economics. The position is part of a project aiming to enhance our understanding of conflict hotspots and migration corridors in space and time within low and middle-income countries. The project is supported by the Fragility, Conflict, and Migration Initiative under OneCGIAR in collaboration with the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI). The candidate will work at IRES in close collaboration with Jean-Francois Maystadt.

Eligibility/Qualification: |
- PhD degree in economics or close to completion
- Proven record of high-quality research in agricultural and/or development economics
- Stayed in Belgium for less than 12 months in the last three years
- Potential to publish in top economics journals
- Deep interest in questions related to conflict and migration
- Thorough knowledge of applied econometrics
- Proficient in English
- Acquaintance with managing large datasets and non-traditional data (GIS, satellite-based, social media, etc.)
- Previous experience in machine learning is an asset |

Post-Doctoral Researcher in Economics – Agricultural and Development Economics
- Improve understanding of conflict hotspots and migration corridors in space and time
- Analyze local determinants of forced migration within and between countries
- Collaborate with the Fragility, Conflict, and Migration Initiative and IFPRI
- Work at IRES in collaboration with Jean-Francois Maystadt
- Potentially travel internationally for fieldwork and collaboration
- No teaching duties involved
General Conditions:
- Position opens on 1 February 2024 or as soon as possible
- Initially for one year (due to donor funding restrictions) with a strong possibility of extension for a second or third year
- Monthly salary, net of taxes, approximately 2900€
- Complete Belgian social insurance coverage without additional expenses
- IRES provides office space and computer facilities
