Research Associate in Molecular Microbiology: The Department of Life Sciences (DoLS) at Imperial College London, led by Professor Daniel Davis, invites applications for a full-time, fixed-term Research Associate position until December 31, 2025. The successful candidate will be based at the South Kensington Campus and will contribute to a project focused on identifying novel antigens as potential vaccine candidates against Klebsiella pneumoniae, a multidrug-resistant pathogen. This is a unique opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research in a multidisciplinary and dynamic academic environment.

Designation: Research Associate

Research Area: Molecular Microbiology, Biochemistry, or Immunology with a focus on identifying vaccine candidates against Klebsiella pneumoniae.

Location: South Kensington Campus – On site only

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Hold, or be near completion of, a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Molecular Microbiology, Biochemistry, or Immunology.
  • Strong background in bacteriology, molecular biology, and bioinformatic and genome analysis.
  • Expertise in immunological assays.
  • Knowledge of antibody and complement.

Job Description:

Research Associate in Molecular Microbiology, Biochemistry, or Immunology

The Research Associate will:

  • Conduct bioinformatic analysis on the Klebsiella genome to identify surface-exposed antigens related to virulence and pathogenesis.
  • Perform proteomic analysis of the surface of Klebsiella strains.
  • Clone, express, and purify antigens for functional and immunological characterization.
  • Determine the role of identified antigens in host-pathogen interaction.
  • Plan and execute research initiatives independently.
  • Develop techniques and approaches for data collection and analysis.
  • Maintain accurate records of findings, write reports, and contribute to publications.
  • Present findings in oral and poster formats at conferences.
  • Contribute to the development of new research methods.
  • Supervise practical work and advise students on techniques.
