Location: University of Stuttgart, Institute of Sanitary Engineering, Water Quality and Solid Waste Management (ISWA), Stuttgart-Büsnau, Germany
Eligibility/Qualification:
- Candidates should have a 4-year Bachelor’s degree or 2-year Master’s degree in environmental microbiology, molecular ecology, or related fields.
- Strong background in environmental microbiology and molecular biological techniques is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and in a team, excellent communication skills, and high motivation for interdisciplinary research are required.
- Proficiency in English is necessary.
Description: The selected PhD student will investigate arsenic mobilization in groundwater systems in the Red River Delta, Hanoi, Vietnam. The project aims to identify key microbial players and pathways influencing arsenic fate using field samples and anaerobic Fe(III)-reducing methane-oxidizing microorganisms. Molecular biological and bioinformatic analyses will be conducted to characterize microbial community composition, metagenomics potential, and gene expression patterns. The project is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and offers a challenging opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge environmental research.
