PhD Fellowship: Biogeochemistry: Aarhus University, Denmark, invites applications for a PhD fellowship in the Biology program. This opportunity focuses on researching cable bacteria and their impact on sediment biogeochemistry. The position is available from August 2024 or later.
PhD Fellowship: Exploring Cable Bacteria and Sediment Biogeochemistry at Aarhus University, Denmark
Study Area: Cable bacteria and Sediment Biogeochemistry
Location: Aarhus University, Department of Biology, Center for Electromicrobiology, Ny Munkegade 116, 8000-C Aarhus, DK.
Eligibility/Qualification: The ideal candidate should possess a strong background in biogeochemistry or environmental science with an interest in microbial ecology. Other essential qualifications include:
- Self-motivation and the ability to organize work efficiently.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English.
Description: The PhD project aims to investigate the role of cable bacteria in sediment biogeochemistry, focusing on their ability to facilitate sulfide oxidation and oxygen/nitrate reduction over significant distances in aquatic sediments. The research will explore the geochemical, physical, and biotic factors influencing cable bacteria activity and its implications for biogeochemical cycles and greenhouse gas budgets. The work will involve sediment and porewater sampling, nutrient analysis, sediment microsensor profiling, and standard geochemical and isotopic techniques, both in laboratory incubations and in situ studies. Collaboration with international partners will enrich the project’s scope and depth.
How to Apply: Interested candidates should follow these steps to apply:
- Read the Application Guide thoroughly for information about requirements and mandatory attachments.
