Postdoc Scholar/Leveau Lab: Join the Leveau lab at UC Davis as a Postdoctoral Fellow to investigate the plant pathobiome, focusing on understanding microbial communities in the rhizosphere of carrots. Eligibility/Qualification:
Basic qualifications (required at time of application):

  • PhD in microbiology, microbial ecology, plant pathology, host-microbe interactions, or related fields.
  • Experience in sampling and DNA-based profiling of microbial communities using shotgun sequencing and/or amplicon sequencing.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with AI tools for microbiome data analysis.
  • Knowledge of culture-dependent approaches to plant microbiomes.
  • Familiarity with standard bioinformatics tools and databases.
  • Proficiency in R.
  • Strong communication skills and dedication to research.

Job Description:
The successful candidate will design and conduct experiments involving sampling carrots and soil, extracting microbial DNA, preparing for metagenomic sequencing, and analyzing sequence data. Collaborating with Dr. Johan Leveau at UC Davis and Dr. Steven Klosterman at USDA-ARS Salinas, the fellow will investigate diseases like cavity spot and forking/galling induced by nematodes. The role includes mentoring, manuscript writing, and grant preparation.
