PhD Fellow in Decision Making: The University of Bergen (UiB) is seeking a highly motivated PhD Research Fellow in Causal Decision Making to join the Department of Informatics. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in machine learning, with a focus on causality and decision-making processes. The fellowship is for a fixed-term period of 3 years, with the possibility of a 4th year involving teaching duties.

Eligibility/Qualification:
- A master’s degree or equivalent in computer science, statistics, or mathematics. Candidates must have submitted their master’s thesis for assessment prior to the application deadline.
- Strong mathematical background and programming skills are required.
- Experience in machine learning, causality, and reinforcement learning is advantageous.
- Proficiency in written and oral English is essential.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Personal and relational qualities, ambitions, and potential will be emphasized.
Job Description: The PhD project will explore how causal models can be learned and utilized in decision-making scenarios. Research directions include theoretical studies on the relationships between models and their guarantees, as well as methodological research on designing novel algorithms for improved decision-making. The fellowship includes participation in an approved PhD educational program and may involve teaching duties depending on the department’s needs.
