PhD Scholarship Opportunity at IIMCB: The International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IIMCB) in Warsaw is offering a full-time PhD scholarship in the Laboratory of Cellular Proteostasis headed by Lidia Wrobel, PhD. The research project focuses on “Nuclear protein quality control in neurodegeneration”, investigating the mechanisms of the ubiquitin-proteasome system in the nucleus.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • MSc degree in biology, biochemistry, or related field
  • Strong knowledge in molecular biology, biochemistry, or neuroscience
  • Understanding of cellular proteostasis mechanisms
  • Basic hands-on experience in molecular or cell biology, fluorescent microscopy
  • Prior experience in working with human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived neurons is a plus
  • Interest in cellular proteostasis and neurodegeneration
  • Fluent in English
  • Willingness to learn, work independently, and collaborate effectively
  • Strong analytical skills and interpersonal abilities

Job Description:

  • Conduct experiments using cellular models, including iPSC-derived neurons
  • Analyze protein trafficking using quantitative mass spectrometry
  • Modify gene expression with CRISPR/Cas9-based methods
  • Employ molecular and biochemical techniques to study protein interactions and modifications
  • Collaborate with team members, conduct literature research, attend lab meetings, and contribute to publications
  • Participate in mandatory Doctoral School activities
